[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang] YouTube has unveiled a conversational editing tool in which AI refines long-form and short-form videos when users give editing instructions in natural language, TechCrunch reported on Sept. 23 local time.
The feature is expected to be available in early 2027 on YouTube Shorts and the YouTube Create app.
YouTube announced several new creator tools at its Made on YouTube event. The conversational editing feature works by having creators describe the direction of edits in a chat window, with AI helping assemble the video.
On stage at the event, YouTuber Happy Kelly (해피 켈리) said an hour of filming can take more than 10 hours in the editing stage, and that it is important whether the process can be made faster while maintaining creative control.
In a demonstration, Happy Kelly uploaded a video of her dancing in several outfits and asked the AI to pick the best take for each outfit. She then added music and transition effects to match the dance. The feature also supports adding text overlays and removing pauses between words. It can also offer editing suggestions based on the context of a conversation.
Creators can return to an editing timeline if needed and adjust the result themselves. YouTube introduced the tool as an assistant that works alongside creators, not a feature that edits in their place. TechCrunch reported that it may help cut repetitive editing time, but that handing some of the process to AI could feel burdensome for creators whose distinctive editing style is a strength.
