KT will introduce an authentication system from next month that allows users to sign up and log in without an ID or password.

The move is intended to simplify sign-up and login procedures and reduce security risks associated with password-based authentication. According to a recent KT notice, new users can log in to KT services using passkeys, PASS operated by South Korea’s three mobile carriers, or text verification. Previously, users created an ID and password during sign-up and could use other authentication methods as needed.

Passkeys are a system that verifies identity using authentication information stored on a smartphone or PC instead of a password. Users can use fingerprints, facial recognition or a device lock code, removing the need to remember or enter a separate password.

Existing members can continue to log in with their current IDs and passwords without taking any additional steps. Those who do not want this can disable that login method in the member information management menu.

Users who signed up without an ID can register an ID later if needed. They can do so through the "Find and Register ID" menu on the KT website or the My KT login screen, or through the member information edit screen after logging in.

Not all services support the new authentication methods. Some services, including Gigagenie and Ansim Box, currently support only ID-and-password logins. Customers who signed up without an ID must register an ID separately to use those services. KT plans to expand the supported authentication methods.
