[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang] Agentic AI startup FortyTwoMaru said on Tuesday that its generative AI solutions, the domain-specific lightweight language model LLM42 v.1.1 and the high-precision retrieval-augmented generation solution RAG42 v.1.3, have received certification under the government’s AI product-service verification scheme in line with follow-up amendments to the AI Basic Act.

The AI product-service verification scheme is a system operated under the enforcement decree of the AI Basic Act. It excludes simple API calls or rules-based non-AI software, and is granted to verified AI products equipped with a substantive AI processing computing system and learning and inference performance.

According to the company, FortyTwoMaru’s LLM42 v.1.1 is a lightweight language model specialized for professional knowledge and internal institutional data in security-sensitive fields such as the public sector, defense and manufacturing. It can run functions such as evidence-based question-and-answer, document summarization, drafting business documents, and chart and image analysis even in on-premises environments on closed networks with internet access blocked.

RAG42 v.1.3 is an enterprise retrieval-augmented generation solution that searches the context of large volumes of internal institutional documents and provides the language model with evidence matched to a question. It processes documents in various formats, including PDF, Word, Hangul (HWP) and scanned images, through deep learning-based document analysis and OCR. It then uses semantic search and reranking to pass only the most relevant evidence to the language model to control hallucinations.

FortyTwoMaru CEO Dong-hwan Kim (김동환) said, "As AI transformation (AX) emerges as a key topic and a national standard system takes root to distinguish 'real, tangible technology' in the public and private sectors, it is very meaningful that LLM42 and RAG42 have both obtained verification certification." He added, "With this preferred qualification for procurement in addition to the AI reliability certification we previously obtained, we will accelerate efforts to target AX buildout projects at central ministries, local governments and public institutions, as well as the public procurement market."
