The KOSPI opens higher on Tuesday and sets another record high. The benchmark extends its gains to an eighth straight session on tailwinds from the United States, while foreign investors remain net sellers.

As of 9:40 a.m., the KOSPI is up 34.23 points, or 0.74 percent, from the previous session at 4,659.02. The index opens up 37.65 points, or 0.81 percent, at 4,662.44, immediately surpassing the previous intraday record of 4,652.54 set a day earlier, and at one point rises to 4,672.04.

In the main board market, individuals and institutions are net buyers of 145.7 billion won and 57.2 billion won, respectively. Foreign investors are net sellers of 205.9 billion won, extending selling for a fourth straight session.

Samsung Electronics is down 0.07 percent at 138,700 won and SK Hynix is off 0.40 percent at 746,000 won. Among the top market-cap stocks, LG Energy Solution is up 0.53 percent, Samsung Biologics rises 3.17 percent, Hyundai Motor gains 7.36 percent and HD Hyundai Heavy Industries adds 3.81 percent, while Doosan Enerbility falls 2.27 percent.
