Fintech firms step up battle over games and mini-apps to boost time spent
South Korea\'s fintech industry is expanding participatory content such as games and mini-apps as firms seek to move beyond utility tools for financial transactions. Kakao Pay launched instant-play mini-games without installation and links missions to points. Naver Pay combines game mechanics with payment activities through its Pay Pet service. Toss is building an ecosystem via its App in Toss mini-app platform, which has surpassed 1,000 partner mini-apps and 51 million cumulative users.

KakaoPay launches \'minigame\' service with no app installation needed
KakaoPay said on Tuesday it has launched a \'minigame\' service in collaboration with global game publisher ToByte, enabling users to play verified games instantly within the platform without installing additional apps. A KakaoPay survey of 46,224 respondents found about 70 percent felt burdened by installing new apps to play games. The service debuts with nine games across multiple genres and offers KakaoPay Points for completing four daily missions.

Neptune to merge unit Triplea to consolidate hybrid casual capabilities
Neptune has approved a merger with its wholly owned subsidiary Triplea, it disclosed on Jan. 27. The company said it decided on the merger to improve management efficiency through business integration and to boost corporate and shareholder value. The merger date is April 1. Triplea, acquired in September 2021, develops hybrid casual games, mainly in the tycoon genre. Its employees will be placed in a new hybrid casual games unit at Neptune after the merger.
