SKT, KISTI develop digital twin-based quantum cryptography network verification technology

SK Telecom has developed digital twin technology with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information to verify the performance and operability of quantum cryptography communications networks. SKT said it unveiled the jointly developed technology at ECOC 2026 in Malaga, Spain. The core is a real-time link between SKT’s quantum key management system and KISTI’s QKD simulator through an ETSI standards-compatible interface.

Rubidium supply crunch looms after semiconductors as quantum computing spreads

Rubidium is emerging as a key strategic resource in the quantum-computing era, with demand expected to expand as neutral-atom quantum computers move toward commercialisation. Because rubidium is mostly produced as a byproduct of processing other minerals, supply is limited. Market Research Future forecasts global demand will rise from 7.44 tonnes in 2025 to 11.96 tonnes in 2035. Industry estimates even 50 to 100 commercial quantum computers could require an additional 0.5 to 0.8 tonnes a year.

LG Uplus pushes international standardisation for next-generation secure communications quality management

LG Uplus is developing international standards for quality management in telecom networks using next-generation security technologies such as post-quantum cryptography and quantum key distribution. The company said an ITU-T SG13 task adopted as an international standardisation project aims to set criteria for systematic service-quality management in encrypted communications environments. LG Uplus proposed latency-related benchmarks, including a target of within about 0.15 seconds for delay-sensitive services like voice calls.
