Broadcast Media Telecommunications Commission says mobile carriers improve emergency location data accuracy

South Korea’s Broadcast Media Telecommunications Commission said location accuracy and compliance rates for emergency location information provided by the country’s three mobile carriers improved. The commission published results of its 2025 quality tests covering cell tower, GPS and WiFi positioning across 170 sites nationwide. Accuracy improved across methods, while response times increased for cell tower and GPS. Apple iPhone results were included for the first time, and Apple said it plans to improve response times by early next year.

Lfin completes tagless payment platform project linked to telecom base stations

Lfin, a company specialising in location-based multi-factor authentication technology, said on Wednesday it completed a project with Seoul Metro to build a tagless payment platform linked to telecom base stations from July 2024 to December 2025. The company said it demonstrated hybrid positioning combining base stations and short-range wireless communications and built integrated infrastructure at Seoul Metro sites. It also plans to expand the business into other fields, including location authentication services.
