Lfin, a company specialising in location-based multi-factor authentication technology, said on Wednesday it completed a project with Seoul Metro to build a tagless payment platform linked to telecom base stations from July 2024 to December 2025.

The project developed core technologies to implement a contactless, tagless payment environment. Lfin demonstrated hybrid positioning that combines telecom base stations with short-range wireless communications technology.

Lfin explained it secured stability and security by building integrated infrastructure, including a tagless server, app server, security equipment and a network separation system, at Seoul Metro's headquarters electronic control room and some stations. It also said it proved technology that can identify passenger ride, transfer and exit records and automatically calculate fare data.

From the passenger perspective, it stressed the project is meaningful because it provides a technical foundation that enables subway boarding and alighting through a more convenient tagless gate passage method compared with transport card tagging.

Based on the results, Lfin plans to expand its business into various fields, including location authentication services that can be applied by companies for purposes such as security and asset management and visitor management. Using its in-house accumulated integrated software and hardware capabilities, it said it will provide efficient construction costs and a standardised platform in future public and private projects.
