Tesla short sellers made $9 billion, but current profit or loss is unclear

Short sellers in Tesla booked about $9.008 billion in mark-to-market gains after the stock’s sharp fall, an analysis showed. The figure was calculated immediately after the July 23 drop and does not represent the group’s real-time profit or loss as of August. Tesla later fell further before rebounding. The company’s second-quarter results, weak operating profit, negative free cash flow and heavy spending on long-term projects weighed on the shares.

Tesla HW3-to-HW4 self-swap draws attention despite company warnings

A private modification showing a Tesla HW3 self-driving computer swapped for the newer HW4 has fueled interest in whether Tesla will pursue official upgrades for existing vehicles. Polish Model 3 owner Michal Gapinski said the work required only light ECU hacking and basic hardware fixing, though full functionality has not been achieved. Tesla has said HW3-to-HW4 upgrades are complex and costly, raising questions over responsibility, pricing and disputes over FSD promises.
