Investor deposits fall below 100 trillion won as margin loans top 33 trillion
Cash waiting on the stock market in the form of investor deposits fell below 100 trillion won in about two weeks, while margin loan balances climbed back into the 33 trillion won range. The Korea Financial Investment Association said investor deposits stood at 98.9 trillion won as of Aug. 26, down 3.6 trillion won from the previous session. Credit trading balances rose, and short-term unsettled trades also increased.

Margin trading debt investing rises again as brokers tighten credit trading rules
Credit-financed stock investing in South Korea is rising again as market volatility increases. Margin loan balances, which had fallen to the 27 trillion won range early this month, have climbed to around 33 trillion won. Some brokerages have tightened internal risk controls, including lowering credit limits for clients aged 80 and older. Forced selling linked to unsettled trades has also increased in recent months.

Korean blockchain firms post joint commercialisation and technology cooperation gains in Europe
South Korean blockchain companies signed joint commercialisation contracts and technology and export cooperation agreements at a European ICT exhibition and won an award at a global startup competition. The science ministry held a follow-up meeting in Seoul to review results from GITEX AI Europe in Berlin, where 23 Korean firms joined a Korea blockchain pavilion. Companies conducted 957 consultations, including 286 tied to exports and investment, and called for regulatory advice and follow-up matching support.
