USB flash drives show no data degradation in long-term storage test
A long-term test of USB flash memory found no bit degradation after being left unpowered for years, according to an online report. The experiment, started in 2020, stored data on 10 32GB Kingston USB flash drives and periodically checked for changes. Checks conducted 1 to 6 years after writing found no bit degradation, including after some drives may have spent about a month in subzero conditions. The tester plans less frequent checks going forward.
