Hong Beom-sik of LG Uplus added as witness for parliament audit; Google, X and Meta Korea executives also
Hong Beom-sik (홍범식), chief executive of LG Uplus, has been additionally selected as a witness for a parliamentary audit by the National Assembly’s Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee. The committee approved requests to summon five witnesses and three reference witnesses at a plenary meeting on Oct. 15. Executives from Google Korea, X Korea and Meta Korea are set to attend on Oct. 22, with an LG Uplus security officer to appear on Oct. 23.

Tving hack to AI character chat: parliament panel calls 29 witnesses for state audit
South Korea\'s National Assembly science, ICT, broadcasting and communications committee approved a list of 29 witnesses and 13 reference witnesses for the 2026 state audit. The list includes executives from Tving and its parent CJ ENM, security chiefs at the three telecom carriers, and representatives of Meta Korea, Coupang, Apple Korea, Google Korea, Telegram and X Korea. Scatter Lab\'s CEO was also called over risks linked to its AI character chat service Zeta.

Korea media watchdog steps up response after Google leaks information on digital sex crime victims
South Korea\'s Broadcasting Media Communication Deliberation Committee is taking follow-up steps after Google improperly provided information on digital sex crime victims, leading to disclosure on an outside organisation\'s website. The committee said it asked Google and the site to delete related posts and began an emergency review in cooperation with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family. It also shared the case with international bodies and urged overseas platforms and Cloudflare to strengthen information protection systems.
