A head-to-head match between a go legend and a rising player will take place.
SOOP said on Jan. 27 it will hold its original sports content 'Sooper Match (SOOPER MATCH)' at 1 p.m. on Jan. 30.
'Sooper Match' is original content in which SOOP presents new meetings and matchups that were previously hard to see in its own way. It is designed to be enjoyed in a platform environment that combines live broadcasts and real-time interaction.
The title of this Sooper Match is 'Connecting Generations'. It will feature a match between Cho Hun-hyun (조훈현), a 9-dan master of South Korean go, and Yoo Ha-joon (유하준), a 1-dan rookie who broke Cho's record for the youngest professional debut after 63 years.
Cho is a symbolic figure representing South Korean go and has competed at the top level for a long time. Yoo is a rookie drawing attention for breaking the youngest-record and is quickly building his presence. The game between the "legend and rookie" is expected to be a stage that shows go fans the generational flow at a glance.
The event will also apply the live-streaming strength of "two-way communication" to go coverage to provide a different viewing experience. Popular streamer Woowakgood and streamer Ttoobi, who also competed as a go player at the National Sports Festival, will take part in the coverage to add to the broadcast's entertainment. In an earlier Sooper Match, Lee Sedol met the virtual idol group ISEGYE IDOL in a virtual space and showcased a combination of traditional go and virtual content.
SOOP is also expanding content beyond go to mind sports broadly, including board games. Through the 'SOOP X Korea Boardgames Mind Sports Festival' with Korea Boardgames, it presented board games such as Guryongtu and Rummikub as watchable content, and it has also run various virtual content such as a VRChat-based 'Go Classroom'. SOOP plans to continue widening a mind-sports ecosystem optimized for the live-streaming environment.
