Leveraged ETF overheating and SpaceX row put investment industry on edge
South Korea\'s financial investment industry is on edge as regulators widen investor-protection checks amid rapid growth in exchange-traded funds. The Financial Supervisory Service is examining single-stock leveraged ETFs and SpaceX-related ETFs, including investor-protection procedures by asset managers and brokerages. Products marketed on promised inclusion of SpaceX IPO shares, index-calculation compliance and liquidity provider management are under review. Separate volatility and price-distortion episodes in ETFs have also raised concerns.

8 in 10 retail investors profit despite war risk; Samsung Electronics tops gains and losses
Eight in 10 retail investors who sold South Korean stocks in the first quarter made a profit despite uncertainty including U.S.-Iran war risk, Shinhan Investment said on May 11. The average profit among winners was 8.48 million won, while losers averaged a 4.96 million won loss. Samsung Electronics was the top stock for both profit-making and loss-making clients. Male and older investors posted higher average profits than female and younger investors.

Securities firms expand risk capital beyond venture investment to productive and inclusive finance
South Korea\'s securities industry is expanding risk capital raised through integrated investment management accounts (IMA) and short-term notes, broadening deployment beyond venture investment. Financial authorities require brokers to supply risk capital equivalent to 25 percent of such funding, with the ratio rising to 10 percent in 2026, 20 percent in 2027 and 25 percent in 2028. Firms are allocating money across venture fund commitments, strategic industries, project finance and emergency operating support.
