Winklevoss twins inject $100 million into Gemini; shares surge in after-hours trading
Crypto exchange Gemini surged in after-hours trading after raising a $100 million investment from its founders, the Winklevoss twins, and reporting first-quarter results that beat expectations. The investment was made through a venture fund that bought Class A common shares at $14 each, paid in bitcoin. Gemini posted an EPS loss of 93 cents versus a 1.03 loss expected, while revenue topped forecasts.

Winklevoss twins make large bitcoin withdrawal from Gemini
Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, founders of U.S. crypto exchange Gemini, have withdrawn a large amount of bitcoin from the platform, prompting varied interpretations of the transaction. Blockchain analytics data cited by CoinDesk showed 572 bitcoin, worth about $42.77 million, moved in the past 24 hours from a Gemini hot wallet to wallets tied to Winklevoss Capital and Gemini Custody. The transfers occurred in two tranches.

Zcash Open Development Lab raises $25 million seed to boost Zcash privacy
Zcash Open Development Lab (ZODL) raised $25 million in a seed round from major cryptocurrency investors including Paradigm, a16z Crypto, Winklevoss Capital and Coinbase Ventures, The Block reported on March 9. ZODL said it will use the funds to accelerate development of Zcash privacy technology. The round also included Maelstrom, Balaji Srinivasan, David Friedberg and Hasib Qureshi. ZODL manages an open-source Zodl Zcash wallet based on ECC’s Zashi wallet.
