Netflix expands beyond films and TV into YouTube-style content, testing its identity
Netflix is expanding beyond films and dramas into games, live sports, podcasts and YouTube videos, in a shift some describe as a move toward becoming more like YouTube. The Verge discussed the strategy on its Vergecast podcast on July 10. Hosts said Netflix’s recent moves look busy and possibly slightly desperate as it adds genres and formats. Others said the expansion fits its long-running fight for users’ time. The key question is whether the approach will succeed.
