Ford CEO says Ford to launch affordable EV to rival Tesla Model 3, Model Y

Ford plans to launch an affordable battery-electric vehicle priced to compete with Tesla\'s Model 3 and Model Y, CEO Jim Farley said in a podcast interview cited by InsideEV. Farley said Ford is not committing to a single route and will pursue hybrids, extended-range EVs and entry-level EVs. Details of the new model have not been disclosed. Ford aims to put Level 3 autonomous driving in affordable EVs by 2028

Ford said it will introduce Level 3 autonomous driving that requires no driver intervention on affordable electric vehicles by 2028. It plans to build necessary hardware into a next-generation affordable EV platform due in 2027, then commercialise the Level 3 function via software updates in 2028. The strategy targets Tesla and Waymo, but faces scepticism over a timeline lagging rivals and limits similar to Ford’s mapped-highway BlueCruise system.
