Bitcoin nears $80,000 as Peter Brandt’s $58,000 call comes under review

Bitcoin has climbed toward $80,000 after breaking out of a lower range around $60,000, putting veteran trader Peter Brandt’s $58,000 to $62,000 downside target under renewed scrutiny. Bitcoin briefly fell to $57,717 on July 1 and then moved sideways for months in that band before reversing higher. The market saw heightened volatility as it digested a surge in Treasury yields and new fiscal consolidation policy ideas. A large short squeeze on Aug. 22 helped push prices near $80,000.
