Hancom supplies AI facial recognition solution to Japan\'s Cyberlinks
Hancom said on Feb. 19 it signed a contract to supply its AI facial recognition solution, Hancom Auth, to Cyberlinks, a Tokyo Stock Exchange Standard-listed company. Cyberlinks will name Hancom a strategic partner and advance its remote identity verification services, targeting existing and new clients. Hancom Auth is based on technology from Spain\'s FacePhi and includes liveness features to detect fake faces in real time, Hancom said.

Nomura temporarily cuts crypto exposure after Q3 profit fall
Nomura is temporarily reducing its exposure to digital assets after third-quarter profit fell and global cryptocurrency markets deteriorated, Cointelegraph reported, citing Bloomberg Japan. Nomura’s net profit fell 9.7 percent from a year earlier to 91.6 billion yen. CFO Hiroyuki Moriuchi said the firm will strengthen short-term risk management, citing losses at its European digital-asset unit and crypto market volatility. Bitcoin fell sharply during the quarter.

Japan seen listing crypto ETFs by 2028; SBI and Nomura preparing
Japan is expected to introduce cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds by 2028, CoinDesk reported on Jan. 26, citing the Nikkei newspaper. The Financial Services Agency plans to allow cryptocurrencies as eligible ETF assets under the Investment Trust Act. Experts expect Japan’s crypto ETF market to grow to 1 trillion yen. SBI Holdings has applied for a dual-asset ETF combining bitcoin and XRP, while Nomura Holdings has shown interest.
