The United States risks falling behind in the global shift to electric vehicles as its pace of adoption trails China, Europe and some emerging markets, a report said. Battery electric vehicles accounted for 5.9 percent of U.S. new-car sales in the first half of the year. China reached about 45 percent in August and Europe 26 percent in July. The report cited trade barriers, policy changes and reduced automaker investment.
