KOSPI era of 5,000 opens as retail investors who bet on a fall cry out
South Korea\'s KOSPI broke above 5,000 for the first time, rising as far as 5,019.54 on Jan. 22 on strong foreign buying. Over the past month, foreigners were net buyers of 4.4 trillion won and institutions bought 286.7 billion won. Retail investors were net sellers of 6.46 trillion won and funneled money into inverse ETFs. Key leveraged inverse products showed about 30 percent losses year to date.
