Anthropic to watermark Claude-generated text; extent of edits needed to remove it unclear
Anthropic will apply invisible watermarks to text and files generated by its AI models, including Claude. TechCrunch reported on Aug. 11 that the move is intended to comply with transparency requirements under the European Union’s AI Act, which took effect on Aug. 2. Anthropic said it will automatically apply watermarking to all models released since Aug. 2 and plans to expand the feature to older models.

Google Veo adds personal AI avatars from selfies and voice
Google has added a personal AI avatar feature to its video creation tool Veo, allowing users to generate customised digital avatars that reflect their face and voice. Users can upload a selfie and a voice recording to insert the avatar into videos. Google also applied its multimodal AI model Gemini Omni to Veo, supporting text prompts and reference images, background replacement and lighting correction. Editing now allows step-by-step changes without recreating a video.

Synthesia valuation tops $4 billion, allows employee share sales
British AI startup Synthesia has surpassed a $4 billion valuation and will allow employees to sell shares, TechCrunch reported on Jan. 26. The company has completed a $200 million Series E funding round with participation from GV, Kleiner Perkins, Accel, NEA and Nvidia NVentures. Synthesia provides corporate training solutions using AI avatars and counts Bosch, Merck and SAP as customers. Its annual recurring revenue has exceeded $100 million.
