GM says removing radar makes no sense, draws line with Tesla\'s camera-only self-driving
General Motors will keep radar and lidar in its 2028 model-year highway self-driving system, taking a different approach from Tesla\'s camera-focused strategy. GM executive Sterling Anderson said vision-only driving has limits and that removing inexpensive radar does not make sense. GM plans to launch an advanced Super Cruise system on the 2028 Escalade IQ, combining cameras, radar and lidar. It will also add a staged takeover request process instead of sudden handoffs to drivers.

Tesla cedes EV sales lead to BYD; can $99-a-month FSD turn things around?
Tesla is pitching autonomous-driving software as a new growth engine after ceding the lead in electric-vehicle sales. It is seeking to expand recurring revenue through subscription software and AI services, and is also weighing the possibility of a merger with SpaceX. Analysts cited in the report highlighted software profitability, but regulatory approval for driverless full self-driving remains unresolved. Subscription uptake is rising, and rivals are also pursuing approvals and advanced driver-assistance systems.

GM unveils fourth-generation EV platform, bets on LMR batteries and central computing
General Motors unveiled a next-generation EV strategy centred on lithium manganese-rich (LMR) batteries co-developed with LG Energy Solution and a fourth-generation EV platform. GM aims to raise energy density while using AI in vehicle structures and manufacturing to cut costs and shorten new model development from 5 years to 2 years. It also plans centralised computing to reduce modules and wiring and deploy AI-driven production systems to improve quality and efficiency.
