Neocloud market shifts as SoftBank and Meta enter
The neocloud market for AI-focused cloud computing is shifting as major players enter. SoftBank Group and its telecom unit SoftBank plan to start a neocloud business next fiscal year, renting AI computing resources to U.S. companies. Meta is also stepping up plans to use its data centres for cloud services. Nvidia is expanding support for smaller cloud firms that lease its GPUs. Big cloud companies are also building forward deployed engineer teams for enterprise AI.

Rebellion to acquire Squeezebits, expand with AI inference optimisation
Rebellion said on June 30 it will acquire Squeezebits, a company specialising in AI inference optimisation. Rebellion said the deal will accelerate its shift into an integrated AI infrastructure company that provides a single platform spanning NPU hardware, software optimisation and inference serving. It described inference serving as the full operational pipeline for running AI models in real services. Squeezebits has optimisation and model-lightweighting technologies to boost speed and cut operating costs across hardware environments.

Squeezebits signs MOU with Modular
Squeezebits, a startup focused on AI model compression and optimisation, has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding with Silicon Valley AI infrastructure startup Modular Inc. Modular develops the Mojo programming language and the MAX inference framework and has an enterprise value of $1.6 billion. The companies will work on integrated AI infrastructure from model compression through execution optimisation and expand MAX into multimodal areas such as image and video generation.
