Vegetable variety decline puts healthy diets at risk - study
A study said increasing vegetable output alone may not guarantee healthy diets and that the range of vegetables and varietal diversity must also be protected. Researchers warned that declines in seeds, varieties and wild relatives narrow options for nutrient-rich and climate-resilient vegetables. They identified at least 1,482 vegetable species and found production and consumption concentrated in a few crops. Reviews showed genetic diversity declines in 80 percent of studies, while about 24 percent of assessed wild relatives were threatened with extinction.

The company said it will run a special summer holiday communications situation room from July 20 to Aug. 31.
