Solana Alpenglow upgrade to launch Oct 21, targets 0.15-second finality
Solana will deploy its next major network upgrade, Alpenglow, on Oct. 21. The upgrade is expected to shorten transaction finality to about 150 milliseconds from about 12.8 seconds by replacing the existing consensus system. The rollout is scheduled for the start of epoch 1,064, expected around 1500 UTC. TowerBFT will continue for about 5,000 slots, or roughly 18 minutes, after the feature gate activates, before Alpenglow takes over.

The platform lets users trade cryptocurrencies, commodities and stocks through a single margin account, supporting major crypto perpetuals, commodities such as gold, silver and crude oil, and a synthetic index called MT500. It also offers Pearl Research perpetual futures with up to 3 times leverage.

Solayer launches Visa-compatible card supporting USDC payments
Layer 1 blockchain Solayer has launched a Visa-compatible physical card that allows users to pay using their USDC balances, Cointelegraph reported on May 15. The card supports online, in-store and contactless payments, and allows ATM withdrawals in supported regions. Users can apply through the Solayer Pay app. Existing users can receive the card for free, while new users must pay a $20 annual activation fee.
