KT, Seoul National University Hospital to build medical AX platform

KT will work with Seoul National University Hospital to build a medical AI transformation (AX) platform, signing a memorandum of understanding in Seoul on Aug. 17. The two sides will jointly pursue a standard model for the platform, verification and advancement of government policy projects such as AI-native hospitals, AI-based clinical decision support and work efficiency, and broader expansion into the healthcare market. KT will take part across planning, development, validation and commercialisation.

Finance sector on edge as talk grows of relocating key financial institutions from Seoul

South Korea\'s finance sector is on edge amid speculation the government is close to announcing a second plan to relocate public institutions outside Seoul. Korea Development Bank, IBK Industrial Bank of Korea and Export-Import Bank of Korea are being mentioned, along with the Financial Services Commission and Financial Supervisory Service. The government has not officially confirmed targets or regions. Labour groups are escalating opposition, with unions planning a general strike and rallies to block any relocation.

South Korea ousts trade chief Yeo Han-koo, disruption to U.S. talks likely

South Korea has dismissed Yeo Han-koo (여한구), the official overseeing working-level trade negotiations with the United States, as of midnight on Aug. 15, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy said. The ministry did not disclose the reason and declined to explain the background. The dismissal comes as the United States has imposed a 12.5 percent tariff on South Korea under Section 301 and is conducting an additional tariff probe, while Seoul seeks to keep combined rates below 15 percent.
