Dell Technologies expands AI data platform to provide data context to AI agents

Dell Technologies said on Wednesday it is expanding functions of its Dell AI Data Platform to help companies secure trusted, up-to-date context from their own data and provide it to applications and AI agents. Dell said many bottlenecks in scaling AI come from data spread across files, databases, cloud services and distributed systems. It introduced a unified semantic layer, an enterprise knowledge graph and knowledge agents to build and share context across applications without vendor lock-in.

Semantic layers may not be read by AI agents

Companies are building governance-backed semantic layers, but AI agents are obtaining business context elsewhere, VentureBeat reported. In the VB Pulse survey, the share of respondents saying they operate, pilot or build semantic layers rose from 58 percent in June to 67 percent in August. Yet only 13 percent in August cited the layer as a main context source. Document search led agent context sources at 32 percent, while direct queries jumped to 21 percent.

Enhance begins ontology-based AI data analysis pilot with IBK Industrial Bank

Enhance said on Wednesday it has begun a pilot project with IBK Industrial Bank to test ontology-based AI data analysis. The pilot focuses on structuring internal work knowledge and tacit know-how so AI agents can use it, and on verifying whether employees can retrieve and analyse needed data through natural-language queries. It will run through November and use a pre-agreed “golden set” dataset for quantitative evaluation.
