Security-focused AI models surge from vulnerability detection to reasoning
Competition is heating up over security-focused AI models designed to find software vulnerabilities and help fix them, as malicious hackers increasingly use AI in cyber attacks. The race now includes major AI developers and enterprise vendors such as Google, Cisco and Microsoft. Google introduced Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber, Cisco unveiled its Antares small language models, and Microsoft announced MAI-Cyber-1-Flash. Startups are also moving quickly, including Cogent Security with its VR-1 reasoning model.

Cisco unveils \'Antares\' open-weight small models focused on detecting code vulnerabilities
Cisco has unveiled Antares, a family of small language models designed to flag files in code repositories that are likely to contain known security vulnerabilities. It distributed Antares-350M and Antares-1B as open-weight models on Hugging Face and plans to release a larger Antares-3B. Developed by Cisco Foundation AI, Antares links public vulnerability data, security advisories and common weakness classifications to repository files.

Genians shares bug bounty results as first-half reports rise 129 percent
South Korean cybersecurity company Genians said it shared the results of its security vulnerability reporting reward programme for the first half of 2026. It said the number of vulnerability submissions increased by about 129 percent from a year earlier, while reward payouts rose by about 1,046 percent. The company said it expanded its bug bounty programme from February to cover all products and services and accepts reports from white hat hackers worldwide.
