Global regulation outpaces plant buildout, speeding up Korean anode materials shift
Korean anode materials makers are accelerating plans to localise synthetic graphite as a U.S. route for Chinese graphite shifts from high tariffs to tax credit eligibility requirements. With capacity expansions and long-term supply contracts largely concentrated in 2027, domestic cell makers have limited options to replace Chinese materials before then. Import prices have fallen, but U.S. 45X rules on prohibited foreign entities tighten from 2026.

National AI computing centre to get Public Growth Fund investment to boost AI infrastructure
South Korea will invest money from the Public Growth Fund in a project to build a national AI computing centre, supporting an AI infrastructure with 15,000 AI chips. A direct investment of 100 billion won in Upstage was also approved to secure sovereign AI. The Financial Services Commission said the fund approved four megaprojects and one regional SME support plan, bringing cumulative approvals to about 84 trillion won.

LS Group steps up new business push beyond power infrastructure into minerals
LS Group is expanding new businesses in key minerals based on its growth platform built in the power infrastructure business. It will foster battery materials such as precursors and nickel sulphate and rare earth permanent magnets as new growth pillars. The group posted record results in 2025, with revenue of 45.7223 trillion won and operating profit of 1.4884 trillion won across 12 companies. It plans to invest 7 trillion won domestically and 5 trillion won overseas over the next 5 years.
