OpenAI industrial computing chief Sachin Katti to step down in November; successor named
OpenAI’s head of industrial computing, Sachin Katti, will step down from his role and leave the company on Nov. 15, CNBC reported. He is set to continue supporting OpenAI as an adviser. Uday Rudaraju, the company’s compute chief technology officer, will lead the overall compute organisation, which designs OpenAI’s infrastructure roadmap and secures resources for model training and services. The change comes amid large-scale infrastructure spending plans and broader executive departures this year.

OpenAI weighs releasing in-house chip abstraction software to run AI across multiple chips
OpenAI is considering releasing software externally that would allow its AI to run on multiple types of chips, The Information reported on Sunday. If it proceeds, the move could create cracks in Nvidia\'s dominance, the report said. OpenAI is developing an abstraction layer so researchers and product teams do not have to care which server runs their work, according to OpenAI compute and infrastructure chief Sachin Katti.

Oracle, OpenAI scrap Texas data centre expansion, seek other locations
Oracle and OpenAI have withdrawn plans to expand their data centre campus in Abilene, Texas, the Financial Times reported. The companies had been negotiating with developer Crusoe to increase the campus by 600 megawatts, including at least 2 OpenAI-only buildings, while a 1.2 gigawatt build is under way. OpenAI executive Sachin Katti said added capacity will be deployed in other locations and that more than 6 sites are being developed.
