K-AI models speed rollout across law, games, materials and startups

South Korean AI models are being applied across industrial sites including legal services, gaming, new materials and the startup ecosystem, the science ministry said on May 18. Law&Company applied Upstage’s Solar Open to its on-premise legal AI service Super Lawyer. Krafton used SK Telecom’s A.X K-1 to improve Korean-language communication for PUBG Ally. LG AI Research’s EXAONE Discovery will be deployed in LG Household & Health Care’s cosmetics materials development.

How to improve price-focused spectrum auctions? Scoring system floated as alternative

A proposal has been raised for South Korea to move its telecom spectrum allocation system beyond price-only auctions by incorporating assessments of network quality and coverage. The aim is to overcome an auction structure that can raise spectrum acquisition costs and to encourage voluntary network investment by carriers. The Korea Information Society Development Institute proposed a scoring auction that evaluates both bids and buildout plans, while noting challenges such as designing objective, predictable scoring rules.

SKT model adopted for military AI development as Dokpamo use bears fruit

South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of National Defense and SK Telecom will work together to use a homegrown AI foundation model in the defence sector. The three signed an agreement on May 14 at SKT\'s Euljiro Tower. The defence ministry will develop a defence-specialised AI model using SKT capabilities from an elite team in the government-led project. Cooperation includes data, testing and GPU support linked to a national AI project.
