End of U.S. EV tax credit reveals winners as Tesla, Porsche post gains
The U.S. electric vehicle market underwent a sharp adjustment in the fourth quarter after the $7,500 federal EV tax credit ended at the close of the third quarter, pulling demand forward. Cox Automotive data cited by InsideEVs showed 2025 U.S. EV sales at about 1.27 million units, down 2 percent from 2024. Fourth-quarter sales fell to 234,000 units, though Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model Y and Cadillac Escalade IQ posted increases.
