Alibaba introduces annual paid subscription for QwenWork AI assistant
Alibaba has introduced paid subscriptions for its workplace AI assistant QwenWork, adding a three-tier membership on Apple’s App Store as it tests demand for paid AI agents after offering the service free during its public test. Annual plans start at 200 yuan and rise to 1,499 yuan. The company will keep its general Qwen AI chatbot free while charging separately for agent functions, citing rising AI infrastructure and inference costs.

Baidu generative AI assistant tops 200 million monthly active users
Baidu’s generative AI assistant Ernie Assistant has surpassed 200 million monthly active users, the Wall Street Journal reported on Jan. 20, citing people familiar with the matter. Ernie Assistant is integrated into Baidu’s flagship search app and PC version and is also linked with major Chinese lifestyle platforms such as Meituan, JD.com and Trip.com. It supports tasks including booking flights, ordering food delivery and searching health and legal information.
