Positron raises $230 million to challenge Nvidia AI chips

AI chip startup Positron has completed a $230 million Series B funding round, TechCrunch reported on Tuesday. The company plans to use the funds to develop high-speed memory chips. Qatar\'s sovereign wealth fund QIA participated in the investment round. Positron is drawing attention as big tech companies move to reduce reliance on Nvidia. The company said its Atlas chip delivers performance similar to Nvidia\'s H100 GPU while cutting power use to one-third.

Musk\'s xAI raises $20 billion with Nvidia, Cisco among investors

Elon Musk-led AI startup xAI has raised $20 billion, surpassing its initial target of $15 billion, CNBC reported on Jan. 6 local time. Investors include Nvidia, Cisco Investments, Fidelity, Qatar Investment Authority, Abu Dhabi\'s MGX, Valor Equity Partners, StepStone Group and Baron Capital Group. Nvidia and Cisco are also working with xAI as strategic partners. CNBC projected the deal could value xAI at about $230 billion.
