Snowflake steps up strategy to run AI work inside its data platform

Snowflake is speeding up a strategy aimed at keeping AI work inside its own platform rather than sending data out to external AI systems. Moves in that direction include a $200 million partnership with OpenAI, the acquisition of Observe AI and the unveiling of Project Snowwork. Snowflake has also integrated Google’s Gemini model into its CortexAI inference service and introduced Snowflake Postgres for AI agents.

Snowflake announces Project SnowWork to automate workflows with AI agents

Cloud data platform Snowflake on March 18 announced Project SnowWork, an initiative using AI agents to automate enterprise work. The company said the project is focused on moving beyond simple data queries to support planning and executing multi-step workflows based on corporate data. Snowflake said SnowWork integrates metrics, definitions and access policies to handle querying, analysis, report generation and presentation preparation, while following data governance and security rules. A launch timeline has not been disclosed.
