Telecoms to strengthen CEO accountability for personal data protection

South Korea’s three telecom operators agreed to make personal data protection a core management task, reflecting it from the AI service design stage and building a responsibility system led by CEOs and boards. PIPC to meet South Korea’s three mobile carriers on Sept. 28, issue joint personal data protection declaration

South Korea’s Personal Information Protection Commission will meet the heads of the country’s three mobile carriers on Sept. 28 to discuss ways to protect personal data in the AI era and to issue a joint declaration, it said. The commission plans to brief carriers on key provisions of the revised Personal Information Protection Act in force since Sept. 11 and urge compliance. It will also hold closed-door talks to exchange views and hear industry requests.
