AI era drives data centre cooling shift from air to water
Global data centre electricity demand is rising as AI, high-performance computing and cloud services expand, making cooling efficiency a key infrastructure task. The IEA estimates data centres account for about 1.5 percent of global power use, with energy demand expected to double by 2030. As cooling can use about half of a data centre’s energy, operators are increasingly turning to water-based liquid cooling to address higher power densities and improve power use effectiveness.
