Deposit tokens push into payment networks, accelerate capital market overhaul
Deposit-token trials are spreading from payment gateways and merchant networks to cross-border payments, shifting the commercialisation race from issuance to where tokens can be used. Payment and settlement at the same time could cut small merchants’ fees and settlement periods. Inclusive finance is expanding by borrower type as banks tailor products and fintechs support fees. Regulators are weighing tighter limits on single-stock leveraged products. Market reforms also tighten scrutiny of duplicate listings and low-PBR firms.

Low PBR firms ranked near bottom for 3 years to be disclosed; first list in November
South Korea will for the first time in November disclose a list of listed companies whose price-to-book ratios have stayed near the bottom of their industries for three years. The Financial Services Commission and Korea Exchange set the threshold at the bottom 25 percent for KOSPI and the bottom 10 percent for KOSDAQ, based on semiannual calculations by industry. Firms can receive a one-year exemption if they disclose value-up plans including low-PBR improvements, with limits.

Four major financial groups\' net profit tops 11 trillion won, competition shifts from banks to capital markets
South Korea’s four major financial holding groups posted combined first-half net profit of 11.34 trillion won, up 9.8 percent from a year earlier, helped by steady interest income and rising fee income from capital-market businesses such as securities, wealth management and investment banking. As non-bank earnings contributions expanded, the competitive focus among groups increasingly shifted to capital markets. In banking, Shinhan Bank led in net profit, while Woori Bank was the only one to decline.
