MSIT science innovation office discusses expanding AI, space, quantum cooperation in U.S.
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT said its Science and Technology Innovation Office attended a conference in the United States and discussed cooperation with Korean-American scientists in strategic technologies such as AI, space and quantum. Science and Technology Innovation Office head Park In-gyu attended UKC 2026 in Orlando from Aug. 5 to 8. He also visited the Kennedy Space Center and received briefings on facilities and the Artemis program.

Park In-gyu visits KIST to discuss research data management measures
Park In-gyu (박인규), head of the Science and Technology Innovation Office at the Ministry of Science and ICT, visited the Korea Institute of Science and Technology in Seoul on Thursday to inspect research data collection and management and to meet researchers. The visit followed the promulgation on June 9 of a law to promote national research data management and use. Park reviewed a platform that automatically collects equipment data and supports online reuse and analysis.

South Korea to invest over 200 trillion won in R&D by 2030, secure 260,000 GPUs
South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT said it finalised its Sixth Basic Plan for Science and Technology for 2026 to 2030 after approval by the National Science and Technology Advisory Council. The plan calls for investing more than 200 trillion won in government R&D over five years and spreading an AI shift across the country. It includes securing 260,000 public-private GPUs, building a sixth supercomputer and a national AI computing centre, and focusing over 60 trillion won on 10 strategic technology fields.
