South Korea steps up push for one AI agent per person, to launch \'AI for Everyone\' service this year
South Korea plans to launch a free, general-purpose AI chatbot service called \'AI for Everyone\' in December using domestic AI models. The government aims to upgrade it into AI agents next year, targeting a \"one AI agent per person\" era. It will support construction of gigawatt-class AI data centres backed by 550 trillion won in private investment and pursue projects in physical AI, AI semiconductors, security and regional AI transformation hubs, and space and quantum programmes.

South Korea opens HPC infrastructure in Indonesia, builds 4.2 PF supercomputer
South Korea has built high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure in Indonesia that can be used to train large-scale artificial intelligence models and analyse massive datasets. The Ministry of Science and ICT and the foreign ministry said an opening ceremony was held for the facility built by KISTI and Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency under a Korea-ASEAN digital cooperation project. The programme runs from 2024 to 2028 with $10 million in funding.

South Korea to cut national R&D administrative forms to 154 from 2,171
South Korea will sharply reduce administrative paperwork tied to national research and development projects and integrate research support systems, aiming to let researchers spend less time on forms and evidence submissions. The Ministry of Science and ICT said a reform plan was approved at a ministerial meeting on May 29. The plan would abolish 1,952 forms, digitise 65 and standardise the rest as 154 permitted forms, while upgrading IRIS and integrating major support systems by 2028.
