Korea to hold 2027 R&D budget strategy meeting, focus on funding restructuring
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT and the Office of Planning and Budget held a strategy meeting on April 30 to discuss next year\'s research and development investment and the 2027 R&D budget. The government will allocate related budgets from an integrated national perspective to improve efficiency and consistency. It plans to restructure government R&D by linking spending cuts and efficiency measures to reinvestment, and to strengthen evaluations and inter-ministerial collaboration.

South Korea to overhaul materials R&D with AI-based research innovation
South Korea will overhaul its materials research and development system by using artificial intelligence, shifting from long-term, high-cost development to AI models, robotic experimentation and data platforms. The Ministry of Science and ICT approved a 2026-2030 strategy to build an AI materials R&D platform. Plans include developing proprietary materials AI models, setting up autonomous experimentation centres and building an integrated national materials research data platform.

Park In-gyu chairs 14th national strategic technology committee meeting
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT held the 14th National Strategic Technology Special Committee meeting on Tuesday, chaired by Park In-gyu (박인규). The committee reviewed and deliberated proposals on upgrading the national strategic technology framework and advancing the NEXT project. The government has continued efforts to build foundations to foster strategic technologies. Details will be disclosed after deliberation at a National Science and Technology Advisory Council meeting later this month.
