Tech Insight: Developing AI models is not that hard
Andreessen Horowitz partner Martin Casado said AI innovation now depends less on genius and more on the ability to assemble data and computing power. He said building AI models may be easier than many think as well-funded teams outside elite backgrounds produce strong models. Casado said the pretraining phase for foundation models is largely over and expects reinforcement learning to drive the next stage, while business models for major AI developers remain uncertain.

Nvidia invests in Thinking Machines Lab founded by Mira Murati
Thinking Machines Lab, a generative AI development startup founded by former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati, has signed a long-term strategic partnership with Nvidia, TechCrunch reported on March 10. The agreement includes adopting 1-gigawatt Nvidia Vera Rubin systems from 2027. Nvidia will also participate as an investor by committing a significant amount. Thinking Machines Lab has raised more than $2 billion since its 2025 founding, valuing it at $12 billion, but has not released a commercial product.
