President Lee reviews expanding alternative service for science and technology talent, revamping military system
President Lee Jae-myung said on Feb. 5 he is reviewing expanding alternative military service for male science and technology talent and overhauling the military system. Speaking at a dialogue event with future scientists, he said the military should shift from an infantry- and headcount-based model to one centered on equipment, weapons and trained experts. He also mentioned research units within the military and said the government is preparing policies to address overseas talent outflows.

Banks battle over benefits for military Nara Love Card
As Phase 3 of South Korea’s Nara Love Card rolls out, Shinhan Bank, Hana Bank and IBK Industrial Bank of Korea are intensifying competition to attract service members. Benefits shift away from cinema discounts toward frequently used categories such as OTT services, delivery apps, convenience stores and public transport. The banks are differentiating on PX discounts, cashback terms, interest on salary-linked products and rates on military savings, as well as accident and handset insurance coverage.

Upbit wins citations from personnel management minister and Military Manpower Administration chief
Dunamu, which operates South Korea\'s Upbit digital asset exchange, said on Wednesday it received citations from the head of the Ministry of Personnel Management and the head of the Military Manpower Administration. It said the awards recognised its cooperation with government requests for information and its support for verifying public officials\' reported digital asset holdings and transactions through the public service ethics system. It also supported checks related to military service exemption reviews.
