Korea media watchdog steps up response after Google leaks information on digital sex crime victims
South Korea\'s Broadcasting Media Communication Deliberation Committee is taking follow-up steps after Google improperly provided information on digital sex crime victims, leading to disclosure on an outside organisation\'s website. The committee said it asked Google and the site to delete related posts and began an emergency review in cooperation with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family. It also shared the case with international bodies and urged overseas platforms and Cloudflare to strengthen information protection systems.

Korean watchdog targets Meta over Instagram account suspensions, enforcement in doubt
South Korea’s broadcast and communications watchdog has begun a fact-finding probe into Meta Platforms over allegations it suspended many Instagram accounts without just cause during a mass suspension wave that affected local users last year. The case could lead to corrective orders or penalties under telecom rules that bar service restrictions without legitimate reasons. Doubts persist over enforcement, as the regulator has yet to collect a 68 billion won fine from Google and Apple. Victims would also need separate civil suits for damages.

Meta Korea selected as official partner for Agency First Program 2026
Meta Korea said on Jan. 28 it has selected official partners for its Agency First Program for 2026. The programme is designed to help domestic partners use a range of advertising solutions on Meta platforms to generate business results and strengthen expertise. It said 26 companies were selected as official partners this year. Meta Korea plans differentiated support and benefits by tier, and additional assistance including consulting, workshops, events and awards.
