Tesla begins production of next-generation Megapack 3, targets 50 GWh-a-year ESS output
Tesla has begun full-scale production of its next-generation grid energy storage system, Megapack 3, at a newly built Megafactory in Brookshire, Texas. The plant is designed for 50 GWh of annual output and is expected to also produce the Megablock platform. Megapack 3 raises storage capacity to about 5 MWh per unit, improves energy density and updates thermal management. Tesla cited rising demand but said supply-chain risks remain.

Tesla moves into modular AI data centre hardware with Megapod trademark filing
Tesla is pushing into modular artificial intelligence data centre hardware after filing a trademark for “Megapod” in the United States. The application describes a modular data centre hardware system for AI computing, including servers, networking equipment, power distribution and cooling. Tesla also describes a self-contained modular computing unit with downloadable software for monitoring and optimisation. The move would put Tesla into competition with Nvidia-backed platforms, while Tesla remains a major Nvidia customer and has faced delays in its own AI chip plans.

BYD overtakes Tesla to top global BESS market in 2025
BYD ranked first in the global battery energy storage system (BESS) market in 2025, overtaking Tesla, according to a tally cited by Electrek. BYD held a 13 percent market share versus Tesla’s 10 percent. BYD shipped more than 60 GWh during the year, while Tesla deployed 46.7 GWh. Chinese companies dominated the top ranks, and global installations rose to about 315 GWh, up 51 percent from a year earlier.
