Stablecoins cannot replace cards even in the age of agentic commerce
Some in the tech industry expect AI agents to favor stablecoins over cards and weaken card networks, a view amplified by a recent Citroni report. FintechBrainfood founder Simon Taylor counters that cards authorize payments while stablecoins move money, making them complementary. He says agents can usually use users’ cards via controllable virtual cards. Taylor adds stablecoins may be useful for back-end settlement and as native payments in complex agent workflows, not as card replacements.
