Circle releases USDC spec for machine payments protocol, targeting AI agent payments

Circle has released an official USDC payment specification for the Machine Payments Protocol, standardising how AI agents and automated services pay in USDC on EVM-compatible blockchains and Solana. The spec introduces a standard payment interface, adds MPP’s first crosschain payment profile via Circle Gateway and includes support for USDCx, a Stacks-based USDC-linked stablecoin. The announcement did not include user numbers, volumes or adoption metrics.

Alchemy launches AgentCard virtual Visa card for AI agents

Blockchain infrastructure company Alchemy has launched an AI-focused virtual Visa card called AgentCard. The card and identity solution is designed to let AI agents make autonomous payments in the real world and was built through integration with Visa Intelligent Commerce. It supports tokenised payments instead of using an actual card number and, where merchants allow, cryptocurrency payments. The service also supports new agent payment protocols such as Coinbase-led x402 and the Stripe Machine Payments Protocol.
