Hana Bank signs won swap deal with RFI, first for South Korean banks

Hana Bank signed a won swap deal in London with a foreign bank registered as a Recognised Foreign Institution, it said. The bank said it was the first time a South Korean bank had concluded a won swap transaction with an RFI. Hana said its London funding centre supplied won liquidity directly to overseas won swap demand. It plans to expand the centre’s scope from FX and remittances to sales of won government bonds, domestic stocks and won derivatives.

KB Financial included in FTSE4Good global ESG index for 16th straight year

KB Financial Group has been included in the FTSE4Good Index Series, a global ESG index, for the 16th consecutive year. KB Financial said on Aug. 21 it has been selected for the index’s constituents since 2011, based on an assessment by FTSE Russell. In the latest review, it scored above the industry average across environment, social and governance categories. The group said it has also maintained ratings from MSCI, the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and CDP.

KOSPI surges 14 percent on foreign buying in record one-day rebound

South Korea\'s KOSPI jumped 14 percent in its biggest one-day rebound, with foreign investors seen as the key driver. CNBC reported the market turned on a rebound in U.S. tech stocks and renewed expectations for AI semiconductors, while SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics also rose sharply. Analysts cited short-covering and leveraged ETF rebalancing as additional factors. Some warned the surge could be temporary and said the next test is whether foreign buying persists.
