KAIST names former Samsung Electronics chairman Oh-Hyun Kwon as new board chairman

Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) said on Sept. 21 it appointed former Samsung Electronics chief executive and chairman Oh-Hyun Kwon as its new chairman of the board at its 298th extraordinary board meeting in Seoul. KAIST said Kwon studied electrical engineering at Seoul National University and KAIST, and earned a doctorate at Stanford. His term runs from the date of approval by the deputy prime minister and science and ICT minister to Aug. 19, 2029.

KOSPI reclaims 7,000 on institutional buying; Samsung Electronics jumps 5 percent

South Korea\'s benchmark KOSPI closed above the 7,000 mark on Sept. 21, lifted by net buying from institutions and gains in semiconductor heavyweights. Samsung Electronics rose nearly 5 percent, while SK Hynix also advanced. The Kosdaq ended higher. The won strengthened against the dollar. The report also cited firmer U.S. chip stocks on expectations of rising memory prices and flagged possible short-term volatility ahead of the Chuseok holiday.

Personal AI agent race is a battle for personal data, Axios says

Competition among startups and big tech over personal AI agents is intensifying, and OpenAI is expected to enter soon, Axios reported. OpenAI has hired a developer of the open-source agent tool OpenClaw to build a next-generation personal agent. Instinct offers access to users’ email, messages, screens, voice and location. SpaceXAI released Grok Bot in August, while Meta launched Muse in September and Apple revamped Siri around AI.
